History1
The first monument business in Springville was owned and operated by Thomas Child (son of William Child). It was established in 1886. He learned the masonry trade while working on the Salt Lake Temple.
History3
In 1941, Alma’s son Arvile moved the business to 134 W 200 N and changed the name to Memorial Art Monuments. He had the great idea to take his business on the road. He bought a big old coal truck and turned it into his business on wheels. He would take the truck and park it in a cemetery, check the local newspapers for obituaries, sell a few stones, and then cut and blast the stones inside the truck.
History5
Arvile’s brother Ivan was also in the monument business at the time. He ran the business in Springville until his passing in 1949. At that time, Arvile parked his truck and took over the business that is now located at 190 North Main.

Arvile and his wife Odessa ran the business until 1963, when Arvile was killed in an accident.
History9
After Arvile passed away Odessa continued to run the business with the help of her family. In 1965 she appeared in LIFE magazine as a woman in business selling large quotas of granite.
History14
History14
At this time the business was sold to Beverly’s sister Linda Child Anderson (Odessa & Arvile’s youngest daughter) and her husband Mike Anderson. They ran the business until their retirement in 2008.
History15
Upon their retirement, Mike and Linda strived to find the right person to take over the family business. After a couple of years of trying, Linda called and offered the business to Dennis and Deana Hill. They are the current owners. Mike spent months with Dennis teaching him the trade that has been passed down from generation to generation.
History17
Following with the tradition of excellent customer service and the highest quality monuments available in the country, Dennis and Deana Hill are proud carry on the legacy at Memorial Art Monument Company. We look forward to serving you for many years to come.
